Walking Football is one of the fastest growing games for adults over 50, having many benefits providing a sociable, fun and safe environment for those looking to be more active in their spare time.
On Wednesday, Blackpool FC Community Trust held the Football League Trust’s North West regional finals at play football Blackpool. There were 11 Football League teams in attendance including Blackpool FC, Carlisle Utd, Wigan Athletic, Crewe Alexandra to name a few.
Despite the poor weather conditions the day was a huge success, with some great football on show, played in great spirits. All teams battled it out for a place in the National Finals at, the home of English football, St Georges Park.
There were some very close scores at the group stages with the top four from both groups proceeding to the Quarter Finals.
Everybody was delighted when football legend Sir Jimmy Armfield, National Ambassador for walking football, visited and said a few words during the half day interval with regards to keeping active and the great sport that is walking football.
After the Quarter Final stage, both Blackpool teams progressed along with Crewe and Carlisle.
Blackpool A were to take on Carlisle and Blackpool B were facing a tough Crewe side, with a mouth watering prospect of both Blackpool teams competing in the final. However, Crewe and Blackpool A came out on top in their fixtures.
There was some excellent football showcased in the final with some great goals. The final result was Blackpool 2 – 1 Crewe.
Both teams will compete at St George’s Park on Monday 6th July against eight other Regional Finalists.
