After running three weeks of trials, extra training sessions and an out of season friendly, the players were selected to represent both football teams in the North West College League. With both teams finishing sixth in their leagues last year the players decided that an aim for the forthcoming season was to better themselves and the teams overall position. They will be attempting to do this by achieving a top four position in both leagues, performing in the playoffs and succeeding in a cup competition.
The football teams at Blackpool Sixth Form are now in their fourth month together and have started the season with some fantastic performances and results. This is mainly due to working hard for each other on and off the pitch, high numbers at training and good attendance in classes.
The first team are unbeaten in their first six games, winning five and drawing one including beating a team that won the league and cup last year. They are also through to the last 32 in the ESFA National Cup exceeding expectations. The second team have had a tough start to the season. They have played five games, winning two and losing three.
During the season, as part of Blackpool Football Club Community Trust, coaches are asked to send players to take part in trials for the Lancashire U18’s team. Four players from Blackpool Sixth Form went for the trials, and all four got through and are now representing the Lancashire u18’s against other districts. One of the players has been selected to represent England U18’s school boys.
Overall, the football teams have enrolled 67 players for their 6Xtra activity, with 75% of those players attending training on a weekly basis.
