St Nicholas CofE Primary School win U11 Premier League Primary Stars tournament!

On Wednesday 22nd February Blackpool FC Community Trust (BFCCT) held our annual Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) U11’s Girls Tournament at Stanley Park.

The tournament, part of our PLPS provision that supports P.E in primary schools across Blackpool, is a key event to help us support and engage football for girls across the town. It is designed create a positive approach to increase female participation and enjoyment of football in a skilled and competitive environment. This year was our biggest ever tournament attended by over 160 girls from 19 local primary schools.

The event was an amazing morning of football, competing in over 40 small-sided matches. There were some brilliant individual and team performances on the day, and the final was hotly contested by pupils from Stanley Primary School and St Nicholas CofE Primary School. Well done to St Nicholas on winning the tournament and they will now go on to represent BFCCT in the regional event held at Preston North End.

The U11 National Girls Football Tournament is one of the competition elements of the Premier League Primary Stars programme. Launched in 2017 and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.

Ten regional events will be staged at community facilities across the country, with hundreds of young people representing Premier League, English Football League and National League clubs hoping to win the opportunity to play at Elland Road, home of Leeds United FC, in the playing kit of their respective professional football club.

Primary PE Manager Simon Smith from the Community Trust said,

“We are really proud that this year’s tournament has been our biggest to date being so well attended and thought of across the town. It just shows the popularity of girls football in the area and it will just get bigger and better. Thank you for all the schools that made it such a brilliant day! Well done to St Nicholas and good luck in the next round at the regional tournament at Preston”
