Blackpool FC Sports College January Roundup

Staff Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training

Blackpool FC Sports College staff attended CPD with our funding provider League Football Education, focusing on delivering high-quality reviews which have a person-centered approach. Our learners are always at the heart of what we do so this training was beneficial and will develop an efficient way of monitoring progress and setting ambitious targets for our learners.

English and Maths Delivery

We have recently welcomed new teachers for Maths and English to complement our sports program. Both educators bring extensive knowledge and experience in their respective fields and have established positive connections with our students. As a result of these additions, adjustments to the timetable have been made, with English classes now scheduled for Mondays and Maths classes for Tuesdays.

Blackpool FC Academy Coaching Sessions

At the Blackpool FC Academy, individuals under the age of 18 are undertaking the UEFA C coaching badge. As part of their assessments, they conduct coaching sessions for our students. The students have embraced this opportunity with a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and respect. These sessions have enhanced their technical and tactical skills and contributed to the development of their knowledge, confidence, and self-motivation. The students have enjoyed participating so far and are looking forward to the upcoming weeks.

Career guidance workshop at Village Hotel

All students were invited to attend a leisure facility workshop at the De Vere Village Hotel on Friday 26th January. The students gained an insight into the leisure industry from the leisure manager, looking at career opportunities and avenues. They then looked at CV expectations before taking part in a group exercise session, looking at teaching and delivery points and session expectations.

Students Ella and Alex said,

“We thought the day was a good learning experience into the field of fitness. We have taken away from this how we can make our CV’s more presentable which will help our employment in the future.”

Football Academy Scores

Unfortunately, it has been a slow start to the new year with most games getting called off due to weather conditions. The A team have played two games this month, drawing against Everton 3-3 and losing against Preston 5-2.

Coaching Academy Placements

We have had another 10 students start a new placement with the Community Trust this month, gaining valuable experience as an assistant coach in the FA Emerging Talent Centre Girls programme, inclusive sports, and community engagement. That’s 40% of our students now gaining valuable work experience opportunities alongside their studies as a volunteer. Our BTEC Tutor Kirsten, has been visiting these placements this month, to support our learners and develop a plan to enhance Individual experiences and progression routes.

University Applications

Students have been working hard on writing personal statements to apply for university. All students who are interested in university have applied and staff are now on with completing references. UCAS deadline is 31st January.
