Thanks to support from Blackpool Council, Blackpool FC Community Trust (BFCCT) will launch a Community Cohesion project encouraging ladies from all different backgrounds to get together and positively impact their neighbourhood.
Community Cohesion has strong links to concepts of equality and diversity and can be defined as: the ability of communities to function and grow in harmony.
- There is a common vision and a sense of belonging for all communities
- The diversity of people’s different backgrounds and circumstances is appreciated and positively valued
- Those from different backgrounds have similar life opportunities
- Strong and positive relationships are being developed between people from different backgrounds and circumstances in the workplace, in schools and within neighbourhoods
Over the next nine months, BFCCT will hold weekly meetings where we will discuss childhood memories, favourite foods, activities, lifestyle barriers and more to provoke conversations about different walks of life and how our differences come hand in hand with similarities. The project will then move into a social action where ladies who take part will lead in producing a social action plan for their neighbourhood and then work together to make those changes.
The project aims to work with females from a variety of cultural backgrounds in Blackpool. The main outcome of the project will be to create a social action befriending group which challenges preconceived opinions between different cultures and focuses on educating our communities about embracing differences and working together to overcome local challenges.
We are really excited to see how this project develops and can’t wait to welcome a wide variety of people together to tackle a local problem.
The first few months will be aimed at creating discussion and fostering a community understanding. It will then develop into how you would like the session to continue and what our aims for a social action project will be, for example: a physical activity group, sustainable social group or community project.
