Blackpool FC Community Trust’s very own Dave McLean (Assistant Coach) & Owen Coyle (Head Coach) led The England Amputee Football Association to their first International tournament victory since 2013.
The pair who work full-time in the education and inclusion departments for the Trust respectively, also volunteer for the EAFA charity’s International team which trains monthly and competes in regular tournaments such as EAFF European Championship and WAFF World Cup.
Amputee football is a variation of the mainstream game for players who have a lower or upper body limb deficiency/amputation.
Last weekend (24th & 25th June) was a very successful one for the England Amputee team as they were victorious in the Amp Futbol Cup competition in Warsaw, Poland. The team were drawn in Group B where they played France on Saturday 24th June who they beat 2-0 before facing Ireland in the evening kick-off which the team won 3-0.
Throughout the tournament the team grew stronger which was evident with a 4-0 victory in the semi-finals vs Japan. England then faced the hosts Poland in the final.
Despite the final being cagey, it was England who won the game 1-0 and thus, were crowned Amp Futbol Cup winners. 
EAFA Head Coach & Community Trust’s Inclusion Officer Owen Coyle said, “It’s a momentous victory for the team, we have been working hard for the last 8 months and it’s great to see it paying off. Every player and staff member have been nothing short of outstanding throughout the weekend.”
Assistant Coach and Education Officer Dave Mclean said, “I’m delighted for everyone involved with the Amputee team. Their commitment has been fantastic and now we can look forward to the future.”
EAFA will now continue to work hard with Owen & Dave as they gear up for the EAFF European Championships which take place in October this year in Istanbul, Turkey.
