BTEC: Blackpool vs Blackburn Rovers B

Blackpool make it back-to back league wins with a comfortable 3-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers B

Both teams have had winning starts to the season but Blackburn looked brighter in the opening exchanges of the first half. No side created any real chances but Blackburn kept and won the ball early on.

A loose pass from the back allowed Blackburn to break on the Seasiders until the move came to an abrupt end after a foul was committed on the Rovers number 10.

The shot from the resulting free kick hit the wall, however the ref noticed an infringement in the Seasiders penalty area and awarded Blackburn a penalty 15 minutes into the game. The penalty was dispatched into the bottom left hand corner giving Blackburn a 1-0 lead early on.

The goal seemed to wake Blackpool up and the players started to retain possession for longer sustained periods, amounting pressure on the Rovers goal.

Firstly, Lewis Loughran went through on goal but his effort was straight down the keepers throat, keeping the score 0-0 halfway through the first half. Tom Hanslip then wrestled his way into the box, which resulted in a very strong penalty claim, but the ref deemed the defenders attempts as fair.

Blackpool were still knocking on the door for an equaliser late on in the first half. The moment finally arrived when Callum Brown collected the ball in midfield to play through Lewis, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner with his right foot.

The boys in tangerine started the second half better with some great play down the right and an excellent effort from Josh Summers-Green left the Rovers keeper scrambling across his goal.

The game continued in the same vein with Blackpool piling on the pressure. Finally the Seasiders found the breakthrough via a corner.

An excellent delivery from the right hand side by Josh was met by Lewis, whose powerful header flew past the Rovers keeper. Giving him his second goal of the game and Blackpool a deserved lead halfway through the second half.

In the closing minutes a good delivery from Adam Henderson found Reece Jones at the back post. He directed his header towards Owen Walmsley, who hit the ball perfectly on the half volley to seal off a great comeback victory for the Blackpool FC BTEC students.
