Friday 8thMay 2020 we commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day and in line with this we held a special virtual meet where Rob Frowen showcased a variety of memorabilia from that time.
Did you know Blackpool FC Community Trust provide weekly groups for armed forces personnel?
Supported through funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, Blackpool FC Community Trust are proud to host a range of armed forces programmes within the Community. This includes serving personnel, families, veterans and families of veterans. Within our sessions, veterans have the chance to engage with other members of the armed forces community, providing an opportunity to rediscover the unique camaraderie of serving soldiers.
As our participants currently can’t get to us, we are trying our best to stay connected with them and here is how.
Each week we are providing virtual sessions for them to take part in.
On Monday between 10:30am and 11:10am we hold a meeting for Over 50’s groups with themed mornings, quizzes and fact finding topics etc. Included in this meet is the opportunity to share memories of being a player or spectator. This is aimed at participants who usually attend our Sporting Memories and Extra Time groups.
On a Wednesday between 10:30 and 11:10am we have been holding a virtual ‘Breakfast Club’ which is an opportunity for ex-forces personnel to meet from the comfort of their own homes and offers a place to socialise with others from the armed forces.
If you would like to get involved you should register prior to the session by emailing Dave Marsland at Dave.Marsland@bfcct.co.uk
Mike Warren has been taking part in virtual sessions and says, “Thank you BFCCT for organising the Zoom sessions. Thinking about us and enabling us to hold a meeting without the fear of social distancing. It’s good to see my mates which is a massive boost when you live alone.”
Another member, Ian Mccleary said,“It’s good to talk! You can’t beat a good face to face with your Allies at a veteran meeting but seeing my fellow veterans face to face on Zoom is the next best thing in these difficult times. It gives me a sense of pride and well-being to be part of the group, wishing everyone to stay safe and I hope you all had a great VE celebration weekend.”
Looking to the future we have so many NEW and exciting sessions coming your way including:
Ex-Armed Forces Coffee Mornings, Breakfast Clubs, Armed Forces Football, Re-Play Activity session all in addition to the previous over 50’s sessions such as Extra Time, Walking Football and Sporting Memories. Keep an eye out for more information over the next few weeks.
We hope you can join us in the very near future but for now; stay home, protect the NHS, save lives.
