Blackpool FC Community Trust deliver Walking Football sessions across Blackpool, giving adults the opportunity to continue their involvement in the beautiful game for longer than they may have anticipated. Currently, our oldest participant is 79.
Unsurprisingly, the physical and mental wellbeing benefits are significant, as illustrated by one participant recently stating how the sessions have had a profound effect on their life: before attending they were isolated and as a result often had suicidal thoughts. The routine of attending a weekly, fun physical activity with a like-minded group has changed all of that.
We are therefore delighted to announce that from Wednesday 3rd July 2019 we are adding two new Walking Football sessions to our community offer. For the first time since the new facility was completed, people can now participate in Walking Football at Unity Academy on Warbreck Hill Rd (FY2 0TR). The session will take place from 5-7pm.
To commemorate the session, we are also delighted to confirm that ex-pro Marc Joseph has agreed to join us for a kick about, as well as Blackpool FC Legend Brett Ormerod who has agreed to drop in.
After the opening evening the sessions will run as follows:
50+ from 5pm – 6pm £4 a session
35+ from 6:30pm – 8pm £5 a session
Jason White, Head of Sport at Blackpool FC Community Trust said, “Football is the beautiful game and is most certainly a national obsession. It goes without saying therefore that the game should be open to everyone to engage with, in whatever capacity is suitable, which is a central philosophy for us at the Trust and something we are very proud of. Extending the amount of older adults’ provision is just another example of that.”
Can’t make it this time? In addition to these sessions we continue to run our Walking Football sessions at Playfootball on Monday evenings: 4:30pm – 5:30pm (age 50+) and 6pm – 7pm (35+)
