Community Roadshow Delivered Across Blackpool

During September and October, Blackpool FC Community Trust delivered their annual Community Roadshow. The Community Roadshow is a competition between Blackpool primary schools using the Community Trust’s inflatable shoot-out goal, with the winners receiving PE equipment up to a value of £500. The inflatable goal has targets in four corners, with the chance to score 5, 10, 15 and 20 points. The Roadshow travelled to 11 local schools, where 330 children from years 1-6 were chosen to take part. Each student took 5 penalties, all with the hope of scoring the most points for their school and winning £500 worth of PE equipment. Over the period of the competition, each school taking part showed great skill and incredible effort to score as many points as they could and the sportsmanship and enthusiasm on show was fantastic.

Hope Cartwright, Physical Education Officer for the Community Trust, thought the Roadshow was a great way for pupils from different year groups to interact and engage with each other. “It was really good to see pupils working together throughout the competition, with year 6’s cheering on their fellow Year 1 pupils and vice versa. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed having a bit of extra competition at lunch-times and were really enthusiastic about the Roadshow”.

After each school had taken their respective 150 penalties, the points were added up and the results announced. With a score of 110, Our Lady of the Assumption narrowly won the competition and have been able to re-stock their PE store with brand new equipment. “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to be able to take part in the competition and would like to thank Blackpool FC Community Trust for allowing us to do so and for all their support so far this year. We are thrilled to have won all this equipment and will put it to good use this year” said Leanne Dixon, Year 1 teacher and sports co-ordinator at the school.

The Community Roadshow is part of the Community Trust’s Premier League Primary Stars project, which uses sport as a tool to boost the attainment of pupils within PE, PSHE, Maths and English. Primary schools across Blackpool are able to get involved in the programme which also supports teachers with the delivery of their PE.
