BTEC Match Report: Blackpool 6-4 Blackburn

Blackpool FC Community Trust’s BTEC Level 3 Football Studies students enjoyed an afternoon of playing football at Ewood Park, on Wednesday.

Blackpool took on Blackburn Rovers’ BTEC side in a thrilling 11-aside match which ended 6-4 to the Seasiders.

Both teams fielded strong teams in what was a fantastic experience.

Blackpool took the lead through Sam Whiteside but Blackburn equalised two minutes later.

In a topsy-turvy encounter, Blackpool took a 2-1 lead only for Blackburn to equalise shortly after.

Lewis Batten then restored Blackpool’s lead to put the Seasiders 3-2 up but Rovers again drew level.

Blackburn then took the lead for the first time in the game after hesitation in the Blackpool defence.

With only 10 minutes to play and trailing 4-3, Whiteside scored two more before Batten sealed the win with a fine strike. Blackpool won the game 6-4.

Football Development Officer Alex Taylor was delighted with the performance. “It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to play at a football ground like Ewood Park. They played brilliantly and I’m delighted for them.”

Blackpool’s striker Sam Whiteside said, “To score four goals at Ewood Park is something I’ll remember all my life. I have learned so much whilst being on the BTEC Level 3 Football Studies course.”
